NBA 2K10 is ready to tip off another championship season. NBA 2K9, the #1 selling NBA video game set the standard for all basketball video games, and NBA 2K10 aims to surpass that that by delivering an even better basketball experience this year with all-new gameplay components, out-of-this-world graphics, even more realistic Signature Style animations, all-new presentation elements and an unrivaled online system -- this season you won’t just play the NBA, you’ll live it.

NBA Today
NBA 2K10 is committed to providing a realistic NBA experience. Just one aspect of this is NBA Today, in which all the real world matchups, news and stats are automatically streamed right into your game providing dynamic commentary and presentation elements based upon what is happening in the real NBA.

My Player Mode
My Player Mode is perhaps the most exciting new feature built into NBA 2K10. Instead of focusing on over all team status, My Player Mode is a career mode, allowing players at home create the ultimate NBA player from the ground, up and guide his every career move. Start as an undrafted rookie in the Summer Leagues, where you specify every aspect of your character's game and physical makeup. Work hard enough throughout the series of games played here, gathering enough experience points along the way to build the skills your player needs at his position and you may get an invite to participate in an NBA team’s training camp. And if you don't make the cut, not to worry there is always the D-League, where you can work more on your game until you get your next shot. Either way, the road to being an NBA star is a long and hard battle full of challenges.

Crews
Basketball is a team sport, and NBA 2K10 acknowledges this with its Crew functionality. Round up your friends and build the ultimate squad, using either your created players from My Player mode or an actual NBA team, then go online and battle other Crews for bragging rights and progression points as you try to climb your way to the top of the Crew leaderboard rankings.

Living Rosters
The 2K Insider and his team of NBA analysts continue to keep NBA 2K10 fresh with up-to-date team and player information, including roster and lineup moves, trades, injuries and player ratings. Now track all of the changes through the season with interactive menus and analysis.

Seamless Online Experience
Forget the past, with NBA 2K10 online play is fully incorporated into every mode of the game. Now you can play the AI, challenge the friend sitting next to you or play your buddy across town anytime, from anywhere in the game. The game features 1-4 player support in versus and coop play locally and 2-10 player support in versus and coop play online with up to a full five man roster on each side.

Signature Play
Signature Play pulls together all of NBA 2K’s player Signature Styles and adds in all-new Signature Tendencies and facial expressions, creating NBA 2K10 teams that play and react like their real life counterparts for an unbelievably realistic NBA experience.

New Intuitive Offensive Controls
All-new easy-to-use dribbling and post game controls allow you to pull off ankle breaking ISO-Motion moves and dominate like Kobe from the perimeter to the paint.

Shut Down D
Every NBA star knows that offense is flashy, but defense wins championships. With this in mind NBA 2K10 gives you the opportunity to show your stuff at both ends of the court. Shut down teams like never before with innovative defensive controls that allow you to shadow your opponent’s every move, deny position off-ball, and even select how you want to contest shots.

5 out of 5 stars Wii's first good basketball game   November 17, 2009

I am suprised that nobody(not even ign)has reviewed this game.it has gotten barely any press and is much better than nba live 09. This is a sim game not arcade. You will not be scoring 150 points a game. The gameplay is superb with no framerate issues at all. The graphics are okay. Some players look great while other players are unrecognizable. Shooting with the wii remote is hard but you will get use to it. To actually shoot and not do a pump fake you must pull the wii remote way back and after you see your player jump to shoot you can follow through. You must do this deliberately and not too fast. Taking a charge where you have to point the wii remote and nunchuck down is also incredibly hard and is very unresponsive. If you don't like the motion controls just use the classic controller. This game has all the modes in the xbox and ps3 versions and nba today really works. The commentary is also the best i have heard in a sports game. The commentators will actually talk about real games and events. This game has great graphics for a wii sports game and is quite fun. if you want a basketball game for the wii buy this game. Nba live 09 is trash compared to this.

Gameplay-Players have very fluid movement(no sliding feet). Isomotion is in this game. Basic dunking is easy but reverse dunking is nearly impossible with the motion controls. There is no point and pass like Nba Live 09 but there is icon passing. The post offense is much improved over last year's game. Players will not always make post shots. The defense is great, my only complaint being the difficulty of taking a charge. You press z to defend a player and follow the arrow that indicate what direction your player will take. Blocking and rebounding can be done by swinging the wii remote up. Open layups and easy shots are rarely missed. The playcalling and dual player control are in this game, and they both work fine. if you dislike the gameplay you can adjust it to your liking with all the game sliders this game provides. 8.0

Graphics-They are better than the ps2 version's graphics and some of the player models(like Steve Nash)look almost like their HD counterparts while others mostly the black players look very choppy sloppy. There is field of depth in some areas. Movement is quite fluid. No framerate issues. This is not a ps2 port. It is a graphically challenged version of its hd counterparts. 8.0

Commentary and Audio- the commentary is definitely the best for any sports game I have played. If you are playing a Nba Today game the commentators will talk about real life games and stats. The commentary never gets stale for me. It seems like they are always talking about something new. The music selection is also good with many popular hip hop songs. 9.5

Presentation-I love the 2k menus and especially the ticker at the bottom of the screen showing current scores. Living Rosters works great. The rosters are always up to date and player ratings go up or down depending on how they play in real life. The overlays are also a nice touch.9.5

Lasting Appeal-This game is overloaded with modes: Blacktop mode, practice mode, season mode, association, my player, team up, are all included. The my player mode will last you a very long time if you are willing to work through all the glitches. The association mode is awesome and is probably the best mode of all sports video games. 9.5

Overall- 8.5 Buy it now if you want a good sim basketball game.

5 out of 5 stars Best Sports Game for Wii   November 21, 2009

I got this game about a week ago and i absolutely love it!!!!! I am so glad there is actually a good basketball game for wii. There are tons of features and tons of game modes. You will NOT get bored with this game.

Gameplay: The gameplay is pretty good for it to be a wii game. There are a few glitches. The shooting and pump fake get mixed up a lot. I have gotten over that and it isnt as much of a problem now. The iso-motion dribbling is nice and can really break the defenders ankles. Overall very good.

NBA Today: It really works! The players progress and trades are automatic.

Modes: There are many different play modes. My favorite is definately the my player mode. You start in the summer league at about a fourty overall, then try to get invited to training camp. If you dont get invited you get sent to the D-League. I made a point guard and was sent to the d-league for 8 games before making it onto the thunder. As you go through your career you obtain skill points which you use to improve your attributes. This will take a long time but it is a ton of fun.

Graphics and Commentary: The graphics are pretty good for a wii game the side of the court you are on is perfect, but the other side is kinda broken up. On the other hand, most players are well done and easily recognizable. The commentary is amazing. They actually arent boring. They do mess a few things up though. Once i got the ball at the 3 point line with a second to go in the shot clock and they said it was a bad shot. Mainly it is very good.

Overall: This is an amazing game. Buy it right away.

5 out of 5 stars Many Improvement and still Many to Go   October 14, 2009

Well I waited awhile to review this game until I got a real feel for it.
I must say it took me about a week to really appreciate the subtle changes that 2k10 has made.

1) The oops off the glass to a team mate or to yourself is a plus... and the Put back Slams are nuts.

2) The ratings of team are no longer high so there is no 1 dominant team, every team can be a threat.

3) Smoother Online play.

4) Improved defense... and the stamina meter makes is so people can't run around all day with KOBE, LEBRON and D WADE all game like in 2k9.

5) Smarter AI this year it actually feels like you're playing a real person... The computer ain't dumb no more they'll make the extra pass to the open man or make you pay for a blown defensive cover.

6) My player mode gives the game more playability no longer just a season or online game and it actually improves your basketball IQ for playing in Crews mode or Team Matches.

7) Being able to use your created player online is also a plus .

8) The dribbling is crazy you can literally break defenders down, make them slip trip and everything else and it looks real not all arcadish.

Cons:
1) GLITCHES... you got a fast break going in for the stuff and your dude takes the slowest 2 steps to the basket in the world... Not all the time but it takes away from the smoothness of the game.

2) There are other delays here in there sometime the Ref and the Person taking the ball out tend to play Catch back in forth for like 30 of 40 seconds.. whats that all about. And there are a few other things that can affect game play here and there.

All in all I like this game it just feels more real to me than other B-Ball games. In my opinion it provides for the most realistic NBA experience. The game play is spot on. All though there are Glitches they are not a deal breaker plus 2K is releasing a PATCH for it soon so this game will be the Premiere game it is always been.

5 out of 5 stars If this non-basketball fan loves the game, odds are those who really dig it will love it even more   December 15, 2009

I'll admit it, if basketball is on, you probably won't see me watching it. But that makes my enjoyment of this game all the more impressive I think.

I got roped into playing this at a friend's house after dinner and, after discovering how much I loved it, I ordered my own on Amazon. Go figure. If I like it that much and you love the hoops...I think you'll be even more impressed.

NBA Today feature: Creates realism...all the excitement that is actually going on in the NBA (the real NBA) is streamed into the game during commentary, news, and stats. The "living rosters" intersect the real NBA with your game. Trades are automatic, you'll see injuries etc with the interactive menus. It works.

Graphics: I consider them excellent for a Wii game and quite realistic. Again, that's for a Wii game...don't expect tv realism, but it's not an expressionless Mii or a "Speed Racer" type animation either. You'll even get accurate facial expressions.

You will get to create your own player, much like you would in the Sims game, and guide every career decision he makes. You create him physically and mentally via his decisions. You will get experience and skill points for his successes along the way which build him to become the ultimate player. Wanna live vicariously? You can here. Play your cards right in your player's training and you may wind up packing for the NBA. You could also wind up in a D-league team til you get your act together.

Sound: Sounds like an NBA game. Provides faced paced action even in sound.

Motion Control: Smooth and fluid. I think anything I got tripped up on was user error as, playing in a group, true basketball fans were all out awesome to watch on this game when my friends did it and did it well. For me, there was some learning to do. I experienced no lag.

The online experience was great, although I have only done that a couple of times. This allows you to play the game with a friend or spouse or family member right next to you OR your relative in another town.

1-4 players can play versus and coop or 2-10 versus and coop online with 5 man rosters on each side.

Conclusion: Being able to take your own player from creation to training to NBA and play online means the game can change every day for you which keeps your interest fresh and the streaming realistic commentary not only better ensures this, but adds even more realism to this fast paced and fun basketball game on the Wii. I can't imagine anyone not finding it fun...especially a basketball fan.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing game with only some minor flaws (so far)   January 28, 2010

When I saw that NBA 2k10 was coming to the Wii, I was very skeptical, mainly because ports of other games to the Wii have been lacking in options. I watched a few videos of the game online, and got sucked in to buying. Now that I have though, I can see my concerns were completely unjustified.

First of all, you are not getting a PS2 port here. This game appears to have been modified from the PS3/Xbox 360 versions with poorer graphics and motion controls. Everything you find in the other versions is here. I can play a game of basketball and feel like it's a fairly realistic representation of an actual game, with the better scorers leading the way, especially if they are matched up against inferior defenders. I have turned the difficulty level up one notch, but other than that have not messed with the sliders. The game is so fun, that I haven't even started in on a Franchise yet (called The Association) because I'm still enjoying the single games so much.

In addition the normal game of basketball it offers a feature call My Player, where you get to create a basketball player and advance through various stages of basketballhood (not a real word) to eventually make it to the NBA. This is the coolest feature I've ever seen in a basketball game. I created a Small Forward and have played about half a season in the D-League so far. I find that I play the game with my character the exact same way I play basketball in real life. I'll slack off my match-up and try to anticipate a pass for a steal, I'll grab a lot of rebounds because I like to crash the boards, and on offense I'll usually stand around the 3 point line waiting for a pass, at which point I'll drive and dish or drive and usually miss a layup (hey, my guy needs some work okay?) One annoying thing about this mode though, is after every game in the D-League, no matter how well I play, I'll be told that I've been cut from my team, but the same team wants to offer me a place on their roster. It's not that terrible, but it is annoying to come off a game where I shut someone down, score some points and play an integral part in a close victory, only to be told I've been cut for the 100th time. I assume when I have a better skillset, this will stop happening...

I saw a complaint about how hard the defense is. It definitely can be. You have to watch your matchups and put better defenders on better offensive players. I never call plays on offense or defense, I just control who can and cannot double team and will manage my subs based on matchups. It's insanely fun.

Graphics are fine for me. The players look much like their real-life counterparts if they had been slightly burned in a fire, and the crowd behind the first row is crazily pixelated, but you won't even notice because the game is that good. The motion controls are hard at first, but the thing to realize about them is they require some anticipation on your part. If you're streaking down the court for a fast break jam and wait until you're next to the hoop to flick the remote up, you're going to come to a stop and possibly pump fake. You have to flick it up around the free throw line to begin the animation. Once you get used to them though, there is no other way to play in my opinion.

Okay, sorry for the long review. Let me end it by saying: if you have ever liked NBA 2k games at all, and only own a Wii, I can't stress enough how quickly you should pick this up.
